Celebrating Earth Day EveryDay

At. St. Francis of Assisi School, earth day is everyday. Our patron St. Francis cherished the earth and named the gifts of creation as "Brother Sun, Sister Moon, Brother Fire and Sister Water. The students are involved in recycling, respecting all creatures, including bees and ants, creating garden boxes and cultivating the school Peace Garden. Worms are raised and their castings are put into the garden as fertilizer.

The photos below show a few of the activities which involve the students in learning about respect for the earth. First graders visited Kings County Nursery, Mrs. Crabapple planted flowers with Grades 1, 2 and 3. &th and 8th Graders weeded the front garden and the Peace garden and planted flowers in various areas of the school campus. The "Ecology Club" redsigned the Peace Garden using the stepping stones made by the students 6-8 years ago!! In addition, the Arts and Crafts club made creations from recycled boxes.photo Recycling project AfterSchool.JPG
