Welcome to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy!

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy exists to provide quality education, rooted in the values of Jesus. We train our young men and women to become intellectually fulfilled, open to growth, religious, loving, and committed to doing justice. This learning community is dedicated to empowering students to work with others to create a just and peaceful society. As educators, we seek to provide our students with an excellent religious and academic education. We believe that the intellectual, affective, social and physical spheres are woven together in the fabric of the whole person.

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy is a parochial school in the Diocese of Brooklyn for students in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy is deeply rooted in Christian values and emphasizes the role of the family in the school community. Our Patron

The spirit of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy is shaped by our patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi. Our Academy provides our students with a safe nurturing environment.

St. Francis of Assisi was a simple man with a simple life style and a great love for all of God’s creatures. He also had a tremendous love for creation and admired in it the beauty, power, wisdom and goodness of our Creator.

Our student body strives to keep focus in that beauty and wonder of God’s sustaining love as they follow in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi.

History

The school, which opened in 1909, is staffed by the Sisters of Saint Joseph and dedicated lay educators. The original school building, located on Maple Street, was constructed in 1909 and is now the Parish Center and Chapel. The current school building, located on Lincoln Road, was constructed in 1937. The building has 15 classrooms, a technology lab, a science lab, an art room, 5 offices and a large auditorium. The auditorium provides the space for the basketball program and the annual Christmas and Spring shows. The school yard is home to our Peace garden, created in 1999, and a basketball court.

Students represent all levels of ability, both academically and socially, and exhibit positive interpersonal relationships and care for one another. The school community strives to work together to nurture students who are cooperative, compassionate, kind-hearted, good-natured, respectful and responsible.

The principal of the school is Ms. Lorraine Pierre. The assistant principal is Sr. Barbara Yander, CSJ. The pastor of St. Francis of Assisi / St. Blaise, Rev. Msg. Paul W. Jervis supports the school through his spiritual leadership and guidance. School policy is specified in the Parent/Student Handbook and is in compliance with New York State Education Department as applicable to non-public schools. Policies are amended and adapted with consultation of staff during professional days, faculty and curricula meetings, the Board of Directors, and with parents at Home School Association Meetings.
